It's really hard to imagine that we've been on this journey for almost a year already! Summer of last year we initially started our "baby talks". Its so funny to think about how easy it is for heterosexual couples, they decide to have a kid and they just go for it. But with us once we decided we wanted to expand our family (beyond our furry kids) we had SO many decision and logistics to discuss.
So many questions: Who would get pregnant? How do we handle the legal options? How do we even begin to pick a "baby daddy"? And speaking of baby daddy. Where do you go for that?
After a google search for sperm banks I discovered that there is one in MN! Who knew? Anyway, we decided to start looking and wow...its like picking out a new car or new house. There are so many options so many choices. It's interesting! We decided that we didn't want to limit our options with donors so did not rule out non ID option donors. We narrowed it down by brown hair and eyes (since that matches Brenda). We also wanted someone that fit...and found one that just seemed like a great match.
I also asked a friend for suggestions on doctors and what kind of legal matters needed to be worked out. Apparently we'll need a second parent adoption. BUT that is something we'll cross once there is a confirmed pregnancy.
So where are we right now? We've found a doctor and will be making a consult appointment soon. We've actually picked out a donor and we have a lawyer that we'll meet with. OH and we've decided that I (Melissa) will get pregnant.
Now we'll go to a consult and purchase the actual product and start the process in September!
